The Blank Placard Dance was a successful "happening" here in Laguna Beach!
On Saturday, October 25, 2008, a small group of us gathered at the local Democratic Headquarters
and walked to Main Beach. Many people were out on Saturday and we experienced mixed comments throughout the day. When we arrived at Main Beach there were a crowd of McCain/Palin protestors
as well as Obama/Biden supporters. We stood right next to the McCain folks and welcomed all
comments & questions.

We feel we had a very positive impact on the community and all in all it was great fun!

Enjoy the pictures.

Special thanks to Anna Halprin, Dennis Pettigrew, Gabe Friedman and each one of you who
participated. All prayers to Barack Obama this Tuesday November 4th!!! And we can only hope for
the next 8 years.

History of The Blank Placard
The Blank Placard Dance, created by dance pioneer
Anna Halprin was originally performed in 1968 in San
Francisco. The piece featured pedestrians carrying blank
signs as a statement about politics and the Vietnam War.
Over the past 40 years, reenactments of the work have
been done throughout the world for various political and community issues; and sometimes simply for the fun of it. Participants are asked to wear white and bring their own
blank sign and are given a specific score to follow. The
marchers in The Blank Placard stay the requisite ten feet
apart, so they do not constitute a demonstration as
defined by law, and thus avoid being arrested.
